1.MSc ELLS summer course in Wageningen, Copenhagen and Hohenheim!

Through the PlantLink-initiated subject areas “Plant molecular breeding and biotechnology” and “Plant health” no less than three summer schools for MSc students will be given this summer: “Information technologies and expert systems in plant protection”, 2 – 8 June 2019, University of Hohenheim, Germany, “Diagnosis of Diseases of Agriculture and Horticultural Plants”, 1 – 12 July 2019, University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and “Green Genetics”, 26-30 August 2019. For more information and how to apply please see ELLS and WUR’s homepages

2. Nova course in Image-based phenotyping, Helsinki, 10-14 June 2019

The course will focus on the utilization of different imaging sensors to study plant traits in greenhouse and field conditions. In addition, analysis of omics data will be introduced by integrated analysis of plant phenomics and metabolomics data. The lecture topics will be focused on i) phenotyping in controlled environments (NaPPI) ii) hyper- and multispectral imaging, iii) field crop phenotyping (Drones) and its applications in practical plant breeding, and iv) integrated analysis for phenomics and metabolomics data (GoMapMan).

For more information, visit NOVA web site or contact kristiina.himanen@helsinki.fi

3. PhD course in chemical ecology, at ICIPE Nariobi, 10 – 21 June 2019

Impact of semiochemicals on insect behavior. From neuronal input to behavioral output to novel applications. Organized by icipe, Kenya and Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology, Jena, Germany. In collaboration with Penn State University, USA and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). 10-21 June 2019. Find more information and registration here.

4. PlantLink and Forskningsnätet Skåne are looking for summer projects for high school students

Researcher! Do you have a suitable 2-week internship this summer? For a seventh consecutive year, PlantLink and “Forskningsnätet Skåne” are looking for short summer internships at SLU Alnarp and Lund University for 2-3 school students over the age of 18 entering their last year of high-school study and who are especially interested in science and research.

“Forskningsnätet Skåne” has been promoting the contact between high school students and universities by bringing academic researchers to the class rooms during the last 15 years and will grant stipends for the selected students. PlantLink supports the hosting research group with 5000 SEK/student. The students can be guided by researchers at any level, but the project should contain some practical aspects. If you have a suitable project please contact PlantLink or “Forskningsnätet Skåne” directly on: info@forskningsnatet.se More information about Forskningsnätet Skåne.

5. NordPlant workshop

This is a 1 1/2 days introductory workshop hosted by NordPlant and INRA on data standards for plant phenotyping led by Célia Michotey (INRA). It will be held 29-30 April in Lund and is open for maximum 20 participants.  Employees at the five NordPlant university have priority, but a number of places are also reserved for researchers at other Nordic Universities.

To register please send an email to Erik Alexandersson including a short motivation why this workshop would benefit you. It is open to PhDs, post docs, university staff and researchers. More information here.

6. New COST action genome editing led from Skåne

Dennis Eriksson (LU/SLU) will lead a new COST action called “Genome editing in plants – a technology with transformative potential”. More information here. The activities will start during 2019.

7. Pufendorf application under evaluation

The Plant, People and Society group of PlantLink handed in a collaborative application for a theme on Alien plant species to the Pufendorf institute. The evaluation is expected later this spring.

8. We congratulate Thomas Kraft for SSF mobility grant  SSF

Thomas Kraft at MariboHilleshög has secured a mobility grant together with SLU Alnarp called ”Optimera genomisk selektion i praktisk växtförädling” [in Swedish]. More information on the granted projects here.

9. Lund sustainability week – Transforming our world

Don’t miss out on an interesting week packed with seminars, lectures and other activities. Where? Lund When? April 8-13. Find the program here.
